3.16 Professor Trelawney’s Prediction

IT WILL HAPPEN TONIGHT. Find yourself a nice, quiet room (or a nice quiet room) to listen to Alice and Martha nitpick Hermione’s schedule, psychoanalyze Draco’s actions, and discuss aspects of Muggle society that are perhaps more advanced than wizard society. Plus, learn way more than you wanted to know about flobberworms and hear what is most definitely Martha’s worst impression to date.

1- Come on Alice. You are just being stubborn about the musical. A Very Potter Musical is a lot of fun.

2-Glad you are doing well in Germany Martha. It is great to get out of the U.S. and explore other cultures.

3- Hagrid’s test, an Easy “O.” Malfoy kind of has a point, it is kind of a joke having Hagrid as a teacher. It is only his friendship with Dumbledore that keeps Hagrid around.

4- And yes, cutting a worm in half can work. They do become two independent creatures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaYc7ezX2gI

5- Grades do matter in Junior High. The grade itself is not the most important, rather it is the compounding of knowledge that leads to better understandings and being able to take higher level classes.

6- I like that Harry is not the smartest or best of his class. A lesser writer could have written Harry as the star of the show.

7- Kind of crazy that the few times Trelawney has given a true prophecy, she does not remember it.

8- And finally, did the Trio actually really care about Buckbeack? Sure they did not want to see him die, and Hagrid is their friend, but outside of the one class how often did they even see Buckbeak? Harry and Ron completely forgot about the original trial. And if Buckbeak really was such a dangerous creature, why would it take so long for the original trial and execution. It took more than half the school. Luckily we know he is fine, but for the first time reader, this chapter ends on such a sad note.

Your commitment to this podcast is so admirable!! At the same time, I’m glad that the podcast doesn’t stop you from life experiences.

You’d think that Hermione would keep her exam schedule hidden. I never thought about the elective/core class conflict.

While Hermione’s efforts to save Buckbeak were valiant, her SPEW crusade was completely pointless. While Dobby loved his freedom, this is just not the way for the rest of the elves who live to serve (as demeaning as it sounds).

Draco’s birthday is only on June 5th, so almost two months before Harry’s. Therefore he remains 13 during his third year.

Reading about the exams was a lot of fun. At the beginning of the book club episodes for Book 3, I mentioned that I would choose Care of Magical Creatures as an elective and Hagrid’s exam makes me happy with my choice.

While Harry’s prediction does come true, his marks would have been better for his marks if he went in the other direction. Trelawney’s prediction is horrifying. If anyone was chained, it was Sirius.

Ha, I really did think that Buckbeak was beheaded even if they did go back in time. I thought Buckbeak was brought back to life and then spared.
