3.4 The Leaky Cauldron

Alice and Martha discuss the perks of being thirteen (even though neither of them ever got to spend a week on their own in Diagon Alley), the tragedy of Florean Fortescue, and the strange habits of pet store employees. They also swap stories of school supply shopping and analyze Harry’s cavalier attitude upon hearing the news that a mass murderer has escaped a high security prison in order to kill Harry.

Another in between chapter that still has a lot of fun stuff. It is kind of fun to see Harry left alone and being his own self for a while.

A couple of thoughts. 1- Is it ever explained how the Weasley’s got Scabbers? 2- I still feel a bit for Percy. Sure he was a bit of a twat, but the twins are always so harsh to him. It is no wonder he wants to get away as soon as possible. 3- The news that Black is trying to kill Harry should be frightening. But Harry is usd to people hating him and wanting to kill him.

The list of what Harry is tempted to buy is so 13-year-old boy of him. I wonder why the Firebolt’s price wasn’t revealed. The free sundae every half hour sounds like a recipe for a stomach ache. However, the owner sounds super sweet, pun intended. I think the mirror was talking about Harry’s hair. I love the time turner foreshadowing! I think after the Malfoy-Weasley altercation in Book 2 the Grangers had their fill of Diagon Alley. If I was Ron, I’d be super traumatized with Scabbers’ reveal.
