Love your podcast, I’m all caught up now!
This isn’t the first time Rowling’s dates don’t line up with actual days in the past. A main example is the very first chapter of Sorcerer’s Stone, which says that Harry is dropped off at the Dursleys’ on a Tuesday night while 1 November 1981 was a Saturday.
I think Rowling probably just didn’t care or didn’t have actual years in mind at the time she wrote these first books. I would also guess year calendars weren’t as easily accessible as they are now online.

Enjoyed the Talons and Tea Leaves podcast and the discussion about dates reminded me of an issue I always have with that. It seems that the first day of school every year is September 1st and always a Monday.

While it seems fun in the books, actually having paintings that can move about seems quite disturbing. And what are they up too when I’m asleep 😉

It is interesting that in a world of Magic and Wonder, Trelawney is a step too far. We had a High School teacher that was a lot like Trelawney. She was obsessed with Dr. Suess and somehow convinced the school to have a Dr. Suess class. Her entire classroom was dedicated to Suess and most of her outfits had Suess somewhere on it. I ended up in her class due to a schedule mess-up and the class was a complete joke. She took every word completely serious and would get upset when we did not take the subject as serious as her.

And yes, Hagrid SHOULD NOT have been given a class, but it seems like Dumbledore was having a hard time finding teachers. Still, his first class is actually pretty good, thank you for screwing it up Malfoy.

I agree that listener feedback is a nice part of the show. I thought it was weird that Fred and George gave Harry and friends their schedules. Class coordination sounds like a headache. The fact that everyone is taking the same electives is fishy. Oh, the dead polecat is supposed to feed the Hippogriff according to the wiki. Sept 1st, 2017 was a pretty cool day in the HP fandom. LMAO, ”Hermione is little-sticious”. I think Trelawney picked Harry as a victim beforehand. I think Pegasus is my favourite magical creature. I thought the ending was abrupt.
