4.27 Padfoot Returns

As the title suggests, this chapter features the return of Padfoot… er, Snuffles, that is. It also features highly questionable teaching methods by Snape, frustrating interactions between Ron and Hermione, and lots of chicken.

I’m starting to understand why Tim was demoted from friend of the show to aquaintance of the show.

In Shades by Fernwithy, Umbridge passed a law so that werewolves are not allowed to write to minors so Lupin wrote to Harry and left it in the care of Prof Moody. Then to make matters worse, Barty Couch Jr discouraged Lupin from writing by saying that Harry was mad at him for keeping secrets and didn’t wish to communicate with him.

I noticed the water beetle!

This was a new low for Snape, but to hear that it’s new age teaching makes it shudder.

Hermione stroking Buckbeak was really sweet.

Sirius says that you can measure a man on how they treat those below him. But he was pretty horrible to Kreacher so that reflects poorly on him.

Snape reading out the magazine article is way worse than reading out an intercepted note or private message.

First a tabloid “journalist” writes an article about a teen girl’s supposed love life.
Then other students see the article and laugh about it.
Then Snape reads it out in class and even pauses to let the Slytherins laugh.
And as you point out, he proceeds to make Hermione sit next to the girl who had been trash talking her to Rita Skeeter.
If the target of the tabloid article was a Slytherin kid, his reaction would be very different.

I am honestly surprised nobody has complained to Dumbledore or even vice headmistress McGonagall about Snape abusing his authority.
