As someone who read Book 4 first, I thought it was enough information to get on board with the story. Lucky for me I completely forgot all about the Book 3 recap/spoilers by the time I decided to read the books in order. I thought of Minerva at the cat mention. I never thought about the pitfalls of wizard mail until you brought it up. I think Buckbeak likes Sirius better as a man because he can’t be fed by a dog. I think Sirius is a reasonable candidate for Real Weirdo.
His name isn’t “Witherwings” because his wings wither; it’s because the part of the horse where the neck meets the back is called the “withers”.
Also, I have a headcanon that Sirius went on vacation to Brazil, and crashed the Ramones’ farewell tour. Brazil has tropical birds, no Dementors, and the Ramones did indeed go to Brazil in the summer of ’94. Plus Sirius Black ran away from home in London in the mid-1970s and got himself a flying motorbike – he must have been a wizard punk rocker.
Sirius totally has a wizard punk rocker vibe, haha!
And you’re also right about Witherwings, if I remember correctly we address it in one of the upcoming episodes.
