5.13 Detention with Dolores

Hermione knits hats for House Elves (she’s getting better, she can do patterns and bobbles and all sorts of things now!), Ron has the sickest burn of the book so far, and Harry spends four miserable detentions with the evil, twisted, mad, old toad. Listen to this episode for as long as it takes for the message to sink in.

It is apple pie in the English version! They do indeed eat apple pie in the UK. Quite a bit. It’s thought of as American because the first New England settlers grew apples in the New World and apples became a staple part of the New England diet. But those settlers…came from England!

I was really dragging my heels to get to this chapter. But I’m here now.

The idea of the PSA is pretty funny.

My problem with the Fainting Fancies is that there’s no way to administer a counter candy to snap out of it.

I absolutely melted at the bowtruckles now that I’m reading it post-Fantastic Beasts. Newt’s bowtruckle was names Pickett!

I think Harry’s ‘difficult life’ retort cracked me up the most.

I loved Ernie in this chapter.

I still shudder at Umbridge’s detention. Martha’s impression of her is really good.

Hahaha, ‘shred the pitch!’. Good one, Martha. ‘Shred the sky!’. Good one, Alice.

I didn’t understand the scar burning part either. I’m glad you addressed it.
