Hi Alice and Martha,
I enjoyed listening to this episode, and just wanted to add to your comments regarding Dumbledore’s remarks that he and Grindelwald were “closer than brothers.” You said that you were disappointed that the movie did not explicitly indicate that they were in a relationship, but do we know that they were ever actually in a relationship? All we have is Rowling’s word that Albus was in love with Gellert, but it is possible that Grindelwald never returned this affection. I always assumed that Dumbledore’s love was unrequited, or even unknown to Grindelwald.
Thanks for sharing your reactions with us!

there is so much to take in. Times like these make me wish that there was a book first. Before looking through all of those “End of Fantastic Beasts 2 explained!!” videos, I need to listen to what your take is first.

Great advice about taking the movie separately from the books! That definitely helped me enjoy it. And I love your observation about how this movie catered to the OG HP fans who has grown up quite a bit since Book 7.

The baby Nifflers were so adorable!! Nifflers are my favourite too. And the younger versions of the actors were astounding looking too.

I love Tina and Newt so much. The fact that they’re canon gives me such a huge sense of security to be on this ship. The salamander eyes line was so perfect and the fact that Tina followed his logic was wonderful.

I’m so disappointed about Queenie. And the fact that she can read minds is a huge asset to Grindelwald.

Flamel was fun, but what’s the point of living forever if you don’t do anything with his life and can’t even enjoy food? I liked your point about how the magic goes overboard.

My favourite part of the movie is the love story between Newt and Tina. I used to watch teen dramas and soaps where couples are never safe no matter how popular they are so seeing this OTP is refreshing. It’s so obvious how much they care for each other and I look forward to their relationship going forward in the next three movies.

Hahaha, I love how you went through the whole show without bringing up the Other Dumbledore! Instead of being Dumbledore’s child, maybe he’s his nephew?

Yay, my comment posted! Those were my immediate reactions and the reason why the sentence doesn’t start with a capital is because it started off with ”I just came back from the theatre and”. After I’ve had a few days to digest the information by listening to podcasts (The Empire Podcast had an interview with David Yates) and watching some videos (the non-negative ones), I can appreciate it more than ever. I’m really glad that it’s not a book because otherwise the film could never live up to the book’s standards. And it’s actually fun to be in a state of actually not knowing.

As for Queenie, I was upset at first with her outcome but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that she would choose that path. And it will give her character so much more depth than being a quite side character without much ambition.
